China makes moves to buy Vietnamese pepper

Dutch commodity broker Amberwood Trading reported today that its local team in Vietnam had observed some small trades for Vietnam pepper from Chinese buyers last weekend, but not much demand from the EU or US, Middle East, etc.

“This hit-and-run buying does not seem strong enough to push up the selling prices in the opening of this week. It is expected that local stocks will to be cleared by this way repeatedly until new crop arrives by December/January,” the company added.

Price indications included Vietnamese BP 500 g/l of fair average quality at USD7,000-7,100 per tonne fob Ho Chi Minh City and BP 500 g/l cleaned at USD7,500-7,600/tonne fob Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnamese BP 570 g/l ASTA grades were listed at USD7,800-7,900/tonne fob and WP DW material at USD10,900-11,000/tonne fob.

The company pointed out that it is also able to offer Vietnamese pepper that complies with the EU norms on pesticide residue levels.
